About Osaka
Osaka is a city with 1400 years of history. It has long been a gateway into the country from foreign lands, and it prospered as " The Kitchen of the Nation " in the Edo Period. This left Osaka with a wealth of historic sites, and a multitude of museums of art and history to introduce those sites.
Meanwhile, Osaka is also modern city as the second biggest city of Japan. Walk on the stylish Kita northern downtown, with all the latest fashions and trends and Osaka's Minami southern downtown, centered around Namba, you can have totally different experiences, even in the same city.
The Tenjin Festival of Osaka is ranked as one of Japan's top three festivals, along with the Gion Matsuri of Kyoto and the Kanda Matsuri of Tokyo . The festival started in the 10th century and today takes place on July 24 and 25 every year. The main celebrations are held on the festival's second day, July 25, including a land procession and a river procession with fireworks. It is a wonderful occasion to enjoy the hot summer day, filled with traditional costumes, spectacular processions and a celebratory atmosphere.
